The minerality and rarity of a great white wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges
The estate
Located in the heart of Burgundy in France, Domaine des Perdrix truly took off in 1996 when it was taken over by the Devillard family. Today led by Bertrand and Christiane Devillard, alongside their children Amaury and Aurore Monot, the estate spans 12 hectares of vineyards. Renowned worldwide for the excellence of its terroirs, a large part of which is classified as Premier and Grand Cru, the estate skillfully combines Burgundian tradition with modernity under the technical expertise of its cellar master.
The vineyard
This rare white wine comes from a small 0.65-hectare plot located within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, just above the famous Aux Perdrix climat. Planted in 1964, the vines benefit from a gently sloping south-east exposure. The terroir stands out for its clay-limestone soil with a predominantly clay composition, promoting excellent water retention and giving the wine its mineral identity. The estate practices sustainable farming with meticulously controlled yields.
Winemaking and aging
To craft this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Les Terres Blanches" 2023, the grapes are harvested by hand and followed by a rigorous sorting of the berries. Fermentation takes place through the action of indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels in cool cellars, a method that preserves the brightness of the fruit and the purity of the wine without over-marking it with oak.
