Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 from Domaine Faiveley
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale, limpid yellow hue, enhanced by delicate golden reflections typical of this great white wine.
Nose
Displaying great complexity, the nose opens on aromas of orchard fruits (ripe pear, white peach, nectarine) and citrus. It is then enriched with floral notes of acacia and orange blossom, complemented by subtle hints of brioche, toasted bread and a fine mineral reduction.
Palate
The attack is delicate and refined, revealing flavours of stewed fruits and candied lemon. The mid-palate offers a silky, creamy texture, perfectly balanced by beautiful tension. The finale, of exceptional length, unfolds on citrus freshness and chalky minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with poultry in a cream and mushroom sauce, or with seafood and shellfish (lobster, scallops) served with a beurre blanc. It will also enhance delicate white fish or refined vegetable dishes with herbaceous notes.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine between 10 and 12°C, after decanting for 15 to 20 minutes. This Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 deserves to rest in the cellar for at least five years and can be enjoyed until around 2043.
The elegance and complexity of a white Grand Cru from Burgundy crafted by Domaine Faiveley
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Faiveley stands as an emblematic figure of Burgundy. Today led by the seventh generation, embodied by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the estate oversees a vast vineyard of more than 120 hectares spread across the region's most prestigious terroirs. Committed to a strong environmental approach with a conversion to organic farming, the estate distinguishes itself through its constant pursuit of excellence, producing wines that combine finesse, elegance and great ageing potential.
The vineyard
This Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet comes from a rare 0.51-hectare plot acquired in 2008, located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. Facing east, the vines planted in 1980 benefit from ideal morning sunshine. They flourish on Jurassic-era soils composed of brown limestone and a hard limestone substrate, enriched with a greater proportion of clay than on the upper part of the slope. This unique terroir is cultivated according to the principles of organic farming.
The vintage
The 2023 vintage was marked by very favourable weather conditions. This mild growing cycle allowed for a generous harvest of excellent quality, yielding berries with beautiful ripeness, crystalline acidity and great aromatic concentration.
Winemaking and ageing
Hand-harvested during the cool morning hours of 16 September, the grapes are lightly crushed and delicately pressed. Fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. This Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 is then aged for a period of 19 months in French oak barrels, with a proportion of 50% new barrels and 50% one-wine barrels.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
