Montagny 1er Cru, a Côte Chalonnaise terroir on the edge of the Mâconnais
The estate
Founded in 1825 by Pierre Faiveley in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy, Domaine Faiveley is now run by Erwan and Eve Faiveley, the seventh generation of the family at the helm of the estate. The domaine extends over approximately 120 hectares spread across the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, all of which are farmed organically. This extensive footprint enables Domaine Faiveley to offer a broad palette of climats, from the most celebrated grands crus to more confidential appellations such as Montagny.
The vineyard
The Montagny 1er Cru Les Las climat is located in the village of Montagny, described as the southernmost in the Côte Chalonnaise, on the edge of the Mâconnais. The plot, east-facing on a gently sloping hillside, rests on stony clay-limestone soil dotted with fossilised oysters. Planted in 1995, it covers an area of just 0.19 hectares, or 19 ares and 6 centiares, which illustrates the approach of plot-by-plot precision applied by Domaine Faiveley across all of its terroirs.
Winemaking and ageing
This Montagny 1er Cru Les Las 2024 is aged in barrel in the manner of the villages of the Côte de Beaune, with a measured use of oak to preserve the balance between aromatic richness and the freshness characteristic of Chardonnay.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay, grown on the Les Las plot in the village of Montagny.
