The pure expression of a granitic terroir in the Rhône Valley by Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott
The estate
Founded in 2015 in the Rhône Valley, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott was born from the desire of its current owners, Julie and Graeme Bott, to create their own vineyard from scratch. Now at the head of a 12-hectare estate, this French–New Zealander couple stands out for their demanding manual viticulture on steep slopes. Their meticulous, low-intervention work has quickly made their name a benchmark for the purity of its wines, establishing itself as an essential signature of the new Rhône generation.
The vineyard
The vines used for this Saint-Joseph thrive on granite soils, located in the municipalities of Chavanay and Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf. Aged between 10 and 20 years, this vineyard benefits from a high planting density of 8,000 vines per hectare. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, with rigorous sorting carried out directly in the vineyard.
Winemaking and aging
The making of the Saint-Joseph 2024 begins with the pressing of the entire whole clusters. The must then undergoes cold settling before being racked off the clear juice. Fermentation takes place directly in barrels, followed by aging for nine months in French oak barrels.
Grape varieties
This cuvée is made from a blend of 70% Roussanne and 30% Marsanne.
