Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 Domaine Henri Boillot
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep, dark red hue, adorned with subtle black highlights.
Nose
Wonderfully complex, the nose exudes intense aromas of black fruit pulp, enhanced by spicy touches and a pronounced minerality reminiscent of stone.
Palate
Full and generous from the first sip, the palate seduces with its richness and spicy notes. It offers a superb balance between vibrant freshness and remarkably supple tannins, extending into a wonderfully persistent finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great red wine pairs beautifully with flavourful meats such as roast game, beef Rossini or squab. It will also elevate mushroom-based dishes, such as veal chop with morels, as well as aged hard cheeses like mature Comté.
Service and Storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 at a temperature of 16°C, taking care to decant it approximately 45 minutes to an hour before serving. Built for ageing, this wine will begin to reveal its full potential from around 2032.
The Elegance and Depth of a Great Red Burgundy Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1885, Domaine Henri Boillot is a prestigious estate located in Meursault, in Burgundy. Spanning 19 hectares, this family-run estate stands out for its sustainable viticulture and rigorous plot-by-plot approach. Today, the vineyard is run by Henri Boillot, a white wine specialist, working closely with his son Guillaume, the current owner in charge of the red wines since 2012. Together, they carry on an ancestral expertise focused on elegance, precision and the pure expression of their terroirs, establishing the estate among the region's foremost references.
The Vineyard
The terroir of Chambertin is built on complex soils composed of limestone slabs, white marl and clay-silica soils. Situated at an altitude ranging from 250 to 280 metres, the vines benefit from an ideal south-east exposure, encouraging optimal sunlight. The estate favours sustainable farming, with mechanical soil work and no herbicides, and maintains limited yields from vines that are sometimes over 60 years old, planted at high density to ensure maximum concentration in the grapes.
The Vintage
2022 offered particularly favourable climatic conditions. The growing cycle unfolded under the best auspices, allowing optimal phenolic maturity to be reached. The harvest, which began at the end of August and continued until mid-September, benefited from mild weather, yielding grapes of exceptional quality, perfectly ripe and healthy.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries, picked as late as possible for perfect ripeness. The making of this Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 stands out for its integral vinification. As such, the entire fermentation, maceration and ageing process takes place exclusively in new oak barrels, allowing for a harmonious integration of the woody aromas while respecting the identity of the terroir.
Grape Variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
