Domaine Jacques Prieur : Clos Vougeot Grand cru 2011

Burgundy - Clos Vougeot - Red - 13° Domaine Jacques Prieur Domaine Jacques Prieur 2011 E236/11
  • Parker : 86
  • J. Robinson : 17-
The 2011 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Jacques Prieur is the product of a 50 hectare walled vineyard created by the Cistercian Monks. Here the clay soil aids in the production of powerful and structured wines. This vintage is precocious, with beautiful sun-ripened berries. The 2011 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Jacques Prieur is aged in new oak barrels for 22 months. This 100% Pinot Noir has a somber red robe with intense glints of violet. The complex and aromatic bouquet is characterized by notes of black fruit - ripe black cherry - with hints of florals, smoke, toast, tobacco and leather. The attack is powerful and dense with spices and savory fruit. The tannins are rich and elegant.

Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Clos de Vougeot 2011 from Jacques Prieur articulates a modern style of winemaking compared to others in the Clos Vougeot flight, boasting ripe dark cherry and blackcurrant fruit that is pleasant if not particularly terroir-driven. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy ripe tannins, firm structure but blocky toward the rugged finish that suggests that it was pushed in the winery.
