Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the 2024 Morgon "Javernières" from Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes

Tasting Notes

Colour
This red wine reveals a warm hue, a direct legacy of the iron oxide-rich soils of its terroir.

Nose
The bouquet is complex and precise, offering a fine balance between red and black fruit aromas, dominated by blackberry, and delicate floral touches of violet. With aeration, subtle mineral notes reminiscent of crushed stone and graphite emerge.

Palate
The attack is delicate, introducing a palate of moderate body. The palate stands out for its vibrant freshness, carried by lively acidity and supple, elegant tannins. The fruit expresses itself with finesse throughout the tasting, extending into a persistent finish with fruity and mineral accents.

Food and Wine Pairing

This cuvée pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes such as eggplant fritters, samosas, or couscous. It also pairs very well with herb-roasted poultry, fatty fish like tuna or seared salmon, as well as soft cheeses such as cheddar or fourme d'Ambert. For dessert, fruit poached in red wine will beautifully complement the pairing.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, taking care to aerate it for thirty minutes to an hour before tasting. This wine can continue to age in the cellar and will ideally be enjoyed until around 2041.

The Authentic and Structured Expression of a Morgon Terroir

The Estate

Officially founded in 1712, Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes is a historic figure in Beaujolais. Today, the eighth generation, embodied by Claude-Emmanuelle and Louis-Benoît Desvignes, oversees a vineyard of 14.5 hectares. True to an environmentally respectful philosophy, the estate has been certified organic since 2023, although these practices have been applied for many years. The domaine stands out for its rejection of standardized methods, favouring traditional winemaking to produce authentic, structured wines built for aging, faithfully reflecting their terroir.

The Vineyard

The grapes come exclusively from the Javernières micro-terroir, located on the southern and eastern foothills of the famous Côte du Py hill, within the Morgon appellation. The vines, around forty years old, thrive on deep, heavily clay-based soils, strongly imbued with iron oxide. Benefiting from a favourable eastern exposure, this terroir allows for optimal ripening of the berries while avoiding excessive heat. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand.

The Vintage

The growing season yielded fruit of remarkable quality. Conditions favoured optimal development, allowing for perfect management of climatic variations and resulting in a healthy, balanced harvest.

Winemaking and Aging

To craft this cuvée, 50% of the grape clusters are destemmed, with the remainder kept as whole bunches. Fermentation takes place in concrete vats, accompanied by a thirteen-day maceration that includes délestage (rack-and-return) operations for gentle extraction. After gentle pressing, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then aged in the same concrete vats for nine months, with no contact with wood, thus preserving the full purity of the fruit.
