Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 from Domaine Nicole Lamarche
Tasting
Appearance
The wine shows a deep ruby hue, reflecting the richness of its substance and the concentration of the vintage.
Nose
The nose is complex and robust, blending earthy notes with ripe dark fruit such as dark cherry and black raspberry, accompanied by spice, nutmeg, truffle and a touch of noble oak from the ageing.
Palate
The palate, still young, reveals medium to high acidity and firm, fleshy tannins, supported by a velvety texture. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum and liquorice mingle with notes of clove, black truffle and tonka bean, leading to a long, precise finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
This Grand Cru pairs ideally with roasted or braised red meats, as well as feathered or furred game, prepared with mushroom sauces or reduced jus. It also works beautifully with fine poultry served with mushrooms and truffle, or with well-matured soft cheeses.
Serving and Cellaring
We recommend waiting several years before opening this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2019, which is still young and structured at this stage. Its cellaring potential is considerable, allowing it to evolve favourably for many years in the cellar.
An Elegant, Finely Poised Clos de Vougeot from Domaine Nicole Lamarche
The Estate
Founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche in Vosne-Romanée, in Burgundy, Domaine Nicole Lamarche is today run by Nicole Lamarche, who has been responsible for the vineyards and winemaking since the 2006 vintage and renamed the estate after herself from the 2018 vintage onwards. The estate, farmed organically since 2010, counts among its parcels the monopole La Grande Rue as well as climats in Clos de Vougeot and Échezeaux, testifying to a strong historical foundation and a constant pursuit of purity and finesse in the expression of terroir.
The Vineyard
The Clos de Vougeot vines farmed by the estate cover a small surface area, planted long ago on gentle slopes. The terroir is limestone with a clay component, providing an ideal foundation for the structure and finesse of the wines. The vineyard is farmed organically, with hand harvesting and rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Winemaking and Ageing
This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2019 comes from a largely destemmed harvest, followed by a pre-fermentation cold maceration and then a long vatting, carried out with gentle, controlled extraction. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new wood, before being bottled without fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
