Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for La Genèse 2022 by Raymond Usseglio & Fils
Tasting notes
Colour
The wine reveals a deep, intense ruby hue, with violet highlights in its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is powerful, dominated by intense scents of ripe red fruits such as cherry, raspberry and strawberry, subtly underscored by a delicate touch of spice.
Palate
The palate offers a generous, intensely fruity substance. The texture is particularly velvety, supported by exceptionally supple tannins. The whole stretches towards a long, lingering finish, marked by delicious fruity and spicy notes.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée is ideally paired with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a fine cut of beef or a rack of lamb. It also pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked dishes, game birds and recipes with Mediterranean flavours.
Serving and cellaring
To fully enjoy La Genèse 2022, we recommend serving this wine at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, decanting it for one hour while it is young. Its ageing potential allows it to be cellared and enjoyed until around 2033.
The Pure Expression of Grenache in Vin de France by Raymond Usseglio & Fils
The estate
The family's winemaking history began in the 1930s, but it was in 1963 that Raymond Usseglio & Fils was officially founded. The estate now extends over 55 hectares. Currently run by Stéphane Usseglio, the domaine stands out for its deep commitment to biodiversity and respect for the soil. Farming all of its vines organically and biodynamically, this family-run estate skilfully combines local traditions with innovative winemaking methods to reveal the authenticity of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Vin de France come from vines with an average age of 70 years. Fifty per cent grow on sandy soils, while the remaining 50% draw their resources from a plot of rolled pebbles. The entire vineyard is cultivated with the utmost respect for living things, using practices that promote biodiversity, certified by Ecocert, Certipaq, Biodyvin and Demeter.
Winemaking and ageing
After hand-harvesting and rigorous berry sorting, La Genèse 2022 benefits from a singular winemaking process. Ageing takes place entirely in an amphora-type vessel made of Tuscan clay, nicknamed "Drunk Turtle". This technical choice encourages gentle, controlled oxygenation of the wine, while allowing the lees to stir naturally, thereby preserving all the purity of the fruit.
