The refinement and style of a Veneto wine by Giuseppe Quintarelli

The estate
Founded in 1924 by Silvio Quintarelli, the Giuseppe Quintarelli estate covers 12 hectares of vineyards in Negrar, in the heart of Valpolicella in Veneto. Now managed by the Quintarelli - Fiorenza family, the estate remains an absolute reference for Amarone. The estate continues extreme craftsmanship with controlled yields and long aging in Slavonian oak, thus preserving an untouched tradition.

The vineyard
The vines are cultivated in the Veneto region, in Negrar di Valpolicella, and benefit from an exceptional terroir located at an altitude of approximately 500 meters. This unique terroir allows for the optimal expression of traditional Valpolicella grape varieties under ideal climatic conditions.

Winemaking and aging
The vinification of the Rosso Ca' del Merlo 2018 follows the traditional Quintarelli method with harvesting in wooden crates and immediate crushing. After a maceration period of 3 to 4 days, spontaneous primary fermentation with indigenous yeasts lasts 7 to 8 days. The wine is then racked and rests until April. At the end of April, during racking, the wine undergoes the Ripasso process by being added to Amarone marc, triggering a second spontaneous alcoholic fermentation. Aging continues in medium to large Slavonian oak barrels for about 6 years to complete maturation.

Grape varieties
The blend of this Veneto wine consists of 55% Corvina and Corvinone, 15% Rondinella, 10% Cabernet, 15% Merlot and 5% of a mixture of Nebbiolo, Croatina and Sangiovese.
