Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Auxey-Duresses Village "La Jonchère" 2023 Jean-Charles Fagot
Tasting
Colour
This red wine reveals a brilliant ruby colour, wonderfully translucent, with a moderate and well-balanced intensity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet offers a lovely balance between small black fruit aromas, such as blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry, and delicate floral notes reminiscent of peony.
Palate
The palate opens with a supple, refined attack, revealing a velvety texture and wonderfully fine tannins. The whole is seductive in its charm and sophistication, unfolding into a lingering finish carried by a beautiful acidity.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs beautifully with delicate white meats, such as roast pork or veal, as well as poultry like duck. It will also work very well with a charcuterie board, rabbit, or pasta dishes with aromatic herbs and risottos.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this wine, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of between 15 and 16°C. Approachable in its youth, it can be expected to evolve favourably in the cellar until around 2033.
The elegance and fruitiness of a red wine from the Auxey-Duresses appellation
The estate
Officially founded in 1920 and located in Corpeau, at the heart of the Burgundy region, the estate is now run by Jean-Charles Fagot. Representing the fifth generation of his family, this passionate winemaker, who is also a musician and restaurateur, took over the reins of the estate in the mid-1990s. The estate cultivates its vines using a sustainable approach, seeking to express the authenticity of its terroirs. The property stands out for its commitment to tradition, producing wines renowned for their purity and minerality.
The vineyard
The Auxey-Duresses appellation is located in the prestigious Côte de Beaune. The vines dedicated to producing red wines thrive on slopes facing east and south-east, on soils composed of marl and limestone rich in stones. The estate favours sustainable farming with integrated pest management, incorporating traditional methods such as partial ploughing with horses and entirely manual harvesting to ensure the quality of the fruit.
The vintage
The year 2023 was marked by generous rainfall in August, followed by a late heat spike just before the harvest. These weather conditions helped concentrate the berries and achieve optimal ripeness, resulting in an abundant harvest and perfectly developed fruit.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking follows a traditional, natural approach, limiting technical intervention. Fermentation takes place in the classic manner, using oak vats. The wine then undergoes an extended aging period of twelve to fourteen months in the estate's cellars, allowing it to develop its full complexity before bottling.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
