Description

The elegance and minerality of a Chassagne-Montrachet white wine

The estate

Established in the village of Corpeau in the heart of Burgundy, the Fagot family has been cultivating vines since 1860, though the estate was officially founded in 1920. Today, Jean-Charles Fagot, representing the fifth generation, is at the helm of this intimate estate. A passionate winemaker and restaurateur, he brings a distinctive philosophy focused on producing authentic, accessible wines tailored for gastronomy. His approach combines a deep respect for family traditions with a convivial vision of wine, forming a genuine link between terroir and sharing.

The vineyard

The vines behind this wine flourish in the prestigious Chassagne-Montrachet appellation, located in the Côte de Beaune. The terroir stands out for its clay-limestone soils rich in chalk, ideal for grape growing and for expressing a fine minerality. Committed to preserving the balance of its land, the estate favours a sustainable farming approach. Vineyard work incorporates animal traction with the use of horses, and harvesting is carried out entirely by hand to ensure the integrity of the grape bunches.

The vintage

The year 2024 proved particularly challenging from a weather standpoint. The growing season was marked by heavy rainfall, leading to significant disease pressure in the vineyards and a notable drop in yields. Fortunately, a return of welcome warmth at harvest time allowed the grapes to reach a satisfying level of ripeness, ultimately delivering a qualitative harvest despite the climatic challenges.

Winemaking and aging

To preserve the freshness and natural acidity of the grapes, harvesting is deliberately carried out early. The winemaking of the Chassagne-Montrachet "Village" 2024 follows the purest Burgundian tradition, with a minimal-intervention approach. Aging takes place over 12 to 14 months in large oak foudres. This choice of large-format vessels allows the wine to develop refinement while limiting the imprint of wood, letting the fruit and terroir express themselves fully.

Characteristics and tasting tips for the Chassagne-Montrachet "Village" 2024 by Jean-Charles Fagot

Tasting notes

Color
The glass reveals a beautiful pale yellow hue, enhanced by delicate green highlights.

Nose
Complex and enticing, the bouquet exudes aromas of yellow peach and citrus, harmoniously interwoven with subtle notes of almond.

Palate
Generous and beautifully rounded, the attack seduces with its mineral framework and lovely acidity. The palate unfolds flavours of apricot and almond, lifted by a fine touch of peppermint, before stretching into a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairing

Thanks to its fine minerality and freshness, this white wine pairs wonderfully with rich, creamy dishes. It will beautifully complement butter-based fish preparations, such as sole meunière, raw or ceviche-style seafood, and roast poultry. It also pairs perfectly with creamy sauces, asparagus with a lemon vinaigrette, or a matured goat's cheese.

Serving and storage

Approachable in its youth for immediate enjoyment, this wine can be drunk now, but will continue to develop favourably in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2031.
