Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Monthélie Village 2023 Jean-Charles Fagot
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful ruby red hue.
Nose
The nose expresses pure aromas of small red and black fruits, reminiscent of cherry and blackcurrant, subtly enhanced by floral touches of violet and peony.
Palate
The palate stands out for its vibrant freshness and velvety texture. Supported by delicate tannins and lovely acidity, it offers a lingering finish where the fruit continues to express itself fully.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs perfectly with roasted poultry, rabbit or lamb. It also goes wonderfully with traditional sauce-based dishes, grilled offal such as veal sweetbreads, as well as cheeses like brie, reblochon or roquefort.
Service and storage
Approachable from its youth, this Monthélie Village 2023 can be enjoyed now, but also has the structure needed to age in the cellar until around 2033.
The elegance and purity of a wine from the Monthélie appellation
The estate
Established in Burgundy, the family has been present in the village of Corpeau since 1860, though the estate was officially founded in 1920. Today, Jean-Charles Fagot runs this family property, which spans 3 hectares of vineyards. With an unusual background blending winemaking and music, he took over the reins in the mid-1990s. In addition to his work as a winemaker, he founded a local inn, creating a unique link between regional gastronomy and his wines. The estate supplements its production with carefully selected purchased grapes.
The vineyard
The Monthélie appellation is strategically located between Volnay and Meursault. The terroir is divided into two hillsides separated by a valley: the eastern slope, rich in limestone, brings finesse, while the western slope, more clay-based, lends power. The vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable farming, an environmentally conscious approach that limits chemical intervention to the strict minimum in order to preserve the ecosystem and soil health.
The vintage
The year was marked by significant rainfall throughout the growing season. However, these humid conditions were offset by warmer temperatures at harvest time, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness in perfect health.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking of the Monthélie Village 2023 is carried out in a traditional and natural manner, without excessive intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself. Aging takes place over twelve to fourteen months in large oak foudres. This choice of vessel helps refine the tannins while avoiding overly pronounced oak influence, thus preserving the purity of the fruit.
