Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Mâcon-Lugny "Les Crays" 2024 Joseph Drouhin

Tasting

Colour
Bright and luminous, the colour reflects great purity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet, both complex and inviting, reveals seductive floral notes intertwined harmoniously with peach aromas.

Palate
Rich and deep, the palate is built around a lovely acidity reminiscent of citrus fruits. Its silky texture leads into a persistent finish, marked by an almost saline minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with summer salads, raw fish dishes such as ceviche, or grilled white fish. It also goes very well with tempura-style fritters, roast chicken, a stir-fry of vegetables with prawns, as well as goat's cheese, whether fresh or matured.

Serving and storage

To fully appreciate the Mâcon-Lugny "Les Crays" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 13°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to develop favourably until around 2029.

The estate

Founded in 1880 in the heart of Beaune, the House of Joseph Drouhin is a true institution in Burgundy. For five generations, this family estate has been dedicated to expressing the natural elegance of Burgundy's terroirs. A pioneer of sustainable viticulture, the estate applies organic and biodynamic methods across its entire vineyard. Today, the estate is led by Frédéric Drouhin, who serves as president, supported by his siblings Philippe, Laurent and Véronique, along with Laurène, representing the fifth generation. The house enjoys worldwide renown thanks to its rigour and respect for the vine.

The vineyard

Located in southern Burgundy, France, the terroir of the Mâcon-Lugny appellation benefits from a privileged geographical position. The "Les Crays" plot, whose Celtic-origin name refers to a stony hill, is situated in the commune of Saint-Gengoux-de-Scissé at an altitude of 300 metres. Its westerly exposure helps preserve a lovely freshness in this southern zone. The vines flourish on clay-limestone soils dating from the Jurassic period, rich in marine sediments and fossils, offering ideal conditions for growing vines.

The vintage

2024 was marked by particularly difficult climatic conditions in Burgundy, significantly impacting harvest volumes. Nevertheless, steady, redeeming sunshine set in until mid-September, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness despite the season's weather challenges.

Winemaking and ageing

The production of the Mâcon-Lugny "Les Crays" 2024 is based on a rigorous selection of grapes and musts from partner growers. Following hand or machine harvesting, gentle pneumatic pressing is carried out, followed by natural settling. Fermentation and ageing, lasting six to ten months, take place in two stages: roughly two-thirds of the juice rests in stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic freshness, while the remaining third is placed in 500-litre oak barrels to add a subtle woody complexity.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
