The estate
Founded in 1513 by Pierre-Étienne Mellot in Sancerre, the Joseph Mellot estate has carried on more than five centuries of winemaking expertise in the Loire Valley. Led by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot and her sons Armand and Adrien, this independent family estate farms over 100 hectares across the eight Centre-Loire appellations. The only owner represented in all of these appellations, the estate now shines in more than 40 countries.
The vineyard
Domaine des Émois comes from a 4-hectare vineyard located in the hamlet of Amigny, in the heart of the Sancerre appellation. The 20-year-old Sauvignon blanc vines thrive on clay-limestone soils and caillottes, the small limestone pebbles typical of the terroir. Farmed under certified organic practices, this vineyard benefits from an outstanding terroir that brings out the full expression of the grape variety.
The vintage
The year 2023 in the Loire began with a contrasting winter, followed by a mild, wet spring. Summer remained temperate before a very wet autumn.
Winemaking and aging
Mechanical harvesting takes place in mid-September, allowing grapes to be picked at optimal ripeness. The grapes are pressed directly using a pneumatic press, with juice selection. Cold settling precedes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Aging of this Sancerre blanc wine continues in stainless-steel tanks, preserving the wine’s freshness and aromatic purity.
Grape variety
Sauvignon blanc (100%).
