The 2015 Face Nord is a new pure Syrah from a north-facing slope on gneiss soils, a rarity in Priorat. It fermented in plastic bins with indigenous yeasts and matured in well-seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months. It's dark and concentrated with a full-bodied palate. There are plenty of tannins that need powerful food and/or more time in bottle. Only 2,500 bottles were filled in June 2017.

The minerality and freshness of a Catalan wine

The estate

The trio L'Infernal, made up of Laurent Combier, Peter Fischer and Jean-Michel Gerin, three passionate winemakers from the Rhône Valley, have succeeded in transcribing the true expression of the Priorat terroir.

A true ambassador for Priorat wines, Domaine L'Infernal is located in Torroja del Priorat, in the region of Catalonia, in northern Spain.

The vineyard

Face Nord 2015 by L'Infernal is a Priorat wine that captures the vibrant and pure expression of Gneiss terroirs, a rock containing quartz, mica and feldspar. The vines are located on slopes and benefit from an excellent northern exposure, hence the name of the cuvée "Face Nord." This exposure brings freshness to the wines in a region with a Mediterranean climate influenced by the Atlantic Ocean.

Winemaking and ageing

The grapes were macerated and fermented for 5 to 15 days for Face Nord 2015. The wine was aged for 18 months in demi-muids.
