James Suckling

Aromas of dried lemons, grapefruit, beeswax, seaweed and pears. Excellent focus, with a compact, driven and mineral palate. Biscuity touches, evolving to hints of pie crust, too, on a long finish. Drink or hold.

Neal Martin

The 2020 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos takes time to really get going, and I found it needed to be served at exactly the right temperature. Cooking apple mixed with light shellfish scents, not complex but nicely focused. The palate is balanced with fine acidity, quite taut and focused, with that nuanced shellfish element continuing, yet you leave unconvinced that this originates from one of Chablis’ finest vineyards. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis.

Nose
The nose is expressive and refined, subtly blending aromas of ripe pear, white flowers such as acacia, and a woody hint of vanilla. With aeration, the floral nuances intensify, bringing even more elegance.

The attack is broad and suave, marked by a well-integrated sweetness. The palate, generous and indulgent, reveals a fruity and juicy profile, extended by roasted and caramelized notes on the finish. The whole enchants with its richness and fine aromatic persistence.

The Estate

Founded in 1923 through the efforts of Abbé Balitrand, the cooperative cellar La Chablisienne is the largest producer of Chablis wines. From Petit Chablis to Chablis, including Chablis Premiers Crus and Chablis Grands Crus, not forgetting the cuvées of the legendary Château Grenouille, La Chablisienne crafts around thirty different cuvées and crus, allowing lovers of fine Burgundy wines to discover the multiple personalities of Chablis wines.

The Vineyard

"Les Clos" de La Chablisienne is a Chablis wine Grand Cru from a vineyard enjoying an ideal southwest exposure on the right bank of the Serein. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils.

Vinification and Aging

Static cold settling before the start of fermentation. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in barrels. This Chablis Grand Cru is aged for 14 months on fine lees, in both tanks and barrels.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
