Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Clos Vougeot Grand cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2024

Tasting

Appearance
With a deep, dark ruby hue, this wine captures the light with elegance.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, opening with notes of black fruits such as black cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant. It then evolves towards notes of undergrowth, damp earth and sweet spices such as clove.

Palate
The palate offers a dense, fleshy texture, supported by abundant yet perfectly integrated and refined tannins. A beautiful acidity brings freshness and balance, leading to a long, lingering finish.

Food and wine pairings

This red wine pairs wonderfully with rich red meats, feathered game such as duck or goose served with a fruit sauce, as well as venison or pheasant. It also enhances dishes featuring wild mushrooms and medium-character cheeses such as Camembert.

Serving and cellaring

To reveal its full complexity, this Clos Vougeot Grand cru Dom. Louis Jadot 2024 requires a few years of patience. It is recommended to keep it in the cellar for optimal tasting from five to ten years onwards, and it can be enjoyed until 2044 at the earliest.

A Burgundy wine faithful to the complexity of its historic terroir

The estate

Founded in 1859 in Beaune, the Louis Jadot House is a leading institution of Burgundy. Historically tied to the region since the family's arrival in 1794, the estate is now led by Thomas Seiter. This prestigious domaine oversees a vast vineyard spread across exceptional terroirs. The identity of Louis Jadot rests on a low-intervention philosophy, showcasing the pure expression of each plot. Committed to respecting the environment, the House applies certified organic and biodynamic methods, thus perpetuating a centuries-old winemaking heritage with unwavering standards.

The vineyard

The Clos Vougeot is a historic terroir cultivated since the twelfth century by the Cistercian monks. East-facing, this vast vineyard benefits from ideal morning sunshine. The plots worked by the estate are located on the lower part of the slope, characterised by deep, rich and compact soils. This geological specificity offers excellent water retention, a major asset for the vines during periods of drought.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by rather mild and relatively dry weather conditions. This climate led to an early harvest, carried out during a period bordering on drought, allowing the berries to reach optimal ripeness and a beautiful concentration of sugars.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the Clos Vougeot Grand cru Dom. Louis Jadot 2024 is based on an approach that respects the fruit. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats for about four weeks, favouring the use of indigenous yeasts and a long maceration. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in French oak barrels, crafted by the estate's own cooperage, with a proportion of new wood carefully adjusted to the characteristics of the year. This traditional Burgundy method allows the character of the terroir to be fully expressed.
