Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos-Saint-Jacques" 2024 by Louis Jadot
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep ruby hue, enhanced by delicate violet nuances that reflect this red wine's fine concentration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely intensity of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, intertwined with hints of black fruit. These are joined by a subtle minerality reminiscent of gunflint, floral notes of peony, along with light spicy touches and a noble, very well-integrated oakiness.
Palate
The attack is delicate before revealing an elegant, well-balanced structure. The velvety texture rests on silky tannins and a lovely natural freshness. The dense mid-palate gives way to a lingering finish, marked by fruit, earthy notes and a fine minerality.
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with characterful meats such as roast beef fillet, game like venison or wild boar, and rich poultry in sauce. It also pairs very well with medium-ripened soft cheeses such as Époisses or Taleggio.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos-Saint-Jacques" 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed until around 2034.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Gevrey-Chambertin Wine
The Estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Drawing on winemaking roots dating back to 1826, this grower-négociant now oversees an extensive vineyard of approximately 220 hectares spread across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and the Beaujolais. Owned by the American Kopf family since the 1980s, the estate is currently headed by Thomas Seiter, supported by Thibault Gagey as managing director. The house stands out for its environmental commitment and its dedication to faithfully expressing each terroir.
The Vineyard
The climat of Clos Saint-Jacques is a prestigious 6.5-hectare terroir located within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. Facing southeast, the vines thrive on limestone soils composed of clay-limestone marls, with a base rich in Prémeaux limestone, giving the grapes a unique freshness and identity.
The Vintage
The year 2024 was marked by challenging weather conditions, with a difficult flowering period and outbreaks of mildew that naturally reduced yields. This unusual growing cycle nevertheless allowed for excellent ripeness while preserving high natural acidity.
Winemaking and Aging
Following manual harvesting, the grapes destined for this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos-Saint-Jacques" 2024 are destemmed and then left to macerate in open vats for three to four weeks. Fermentation is punctuated by two daily punch-downs. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels crafted by the house's own cooperage, with a measured proportion of new wood.
