Decanter

This is perhaps the archetype of the Bâtard-Montrachet appellation, with ripe apple, melon, and hints of butter, cream, and spice. The texture is rich, creamy, and slightly fat, as is often the case with Bâtard. Latour vinifies the eastern half of this clos, which constitutes 0.43ha directly across the street from Montrachet. The grapes are pressed slowly as whole clusters without rolling the press to get a very clean must. The ferment starts in tank and finishes in cask, where it stays nine months before getting a further six in tank.

Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

Though opulent and fleshy, this white is underscored by lively acidity, setting the scene for its peach, pineapple, citronella and butterscotch flavors. Balanced and almost chewy, with ample fruit and toasty oak lining the excellent aftertaste. Combines power and finesse. Best from 2027 through 2038. 280 cases made, 50 cases imported.
