James Suckling

Will you be able to resist this Beaune 1er Cru? Charming and delicate with fine black-cherry and floral aromas, this is a very elegant and sensual wine that wraps you around its little finger. Long finish that’s dry and silky. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast

Anna Lee C. Iijima

Hints of tar and kindling offset bursts of bright, sun-drenched blackberry and cherry flavors in this wine. Vibrant and penetrating in fruit yet braced by fine, firm tannins, it's an elegantly structured, weighty sip best approached from 2025 through 2035.

The estate

Founded in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, Louis Latour remains an independent family-owned estate run by the 11th generation of the Latour family. Descended from a line of coopers established since 1731, the estate has built the largest Grand Cru vineyard in the Côte d'Or. This Burgundian house embodies two centuries of winemaking excellence in Burgundy, combining innovation and tradition.

The vineyard

The "Vignes Franches" climat takes its name from the historical exemption from land taxes once enjoyed by this terroir. Located mid-slope in the commune of Beaune, this Beaune vineyard sits on clay-limestone soils enriched with fine gravel, ensuring excellent drainage. The vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive in this privileged terroir that combines the richness of neighboring Pommard wines with a very pleasant fruitiness.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand and then traditionally vinified in open vats. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full. Aging takes place for 10 to 12 months in French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage, with 25% new medium-toast oak.
