Wine Spectator

Bruce Sanderson

A lush, vibrant and sophisticated version, exhibiting pure cherry, raspberry, mint and floral aromas and flavors shaded by mineral and tobacco notes. Powerful yet refined, this has fine balance and ends in a cascade of fruit, mineral and spice. Shows tension between its power and finesse. Best from 2026 through 2045. 340 cases made, 60 cases imported.

James Suckling

This is what makes Burgundy so special – it’s so easy to enjoy, with amazing black-cherry fruit, yet it’s so deep and complex. Wonderful richness, beneath which lies a major tannin structure, then the minerality and lively acidity kick in and push this out in the direction of infinity. Makes you glad to be alive! Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast

A.I.

This wine's profoundly ripe black-plum and cassis flavors and svelte, spirited demeanor make it a fantastic expression of the appellation. Despite a maturation of 10 to 12 months in 100% oak, it's pristine in fruit, finishing on lingering notes of crushed white pepper and a salty, mineral crush. At peak from 2025 through 2040, the wine will hold longer.

The estate

Established in 1797 by Jean Latour in Beaune, Louis Latour draws its roots from a Burgundian family tradition dating back to 1731. Now led by the eleventh generation of the Latour family, the house upholds the custom whereby each leader bears the first name Louis. A pioneer of modern winemaking techniques since the 19th century, the estate cultivates exceptional vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. Its historic cellars in Beaune safeguard two centuries of viticultural know-how, blending innovation with respect for ancestral traditions.

The vineyard

The Chambertin appellation lies at the heart of the Grands Crus of the Côte de Nuits, on an exceptional terroir renowned for its unique geological richness. The Latour family owns 0.81 hectares in a single plot, closer to Latricières than to Clos de Bèze. The vines, averaging 35 years old, are rooted in a Bajocian clay substrate covered with shallow limestone soils mixed with gravel and clay.

Winemaking and aging

Hand harvesting precedes traditional vinification in open vats, followed by complete malolactic fermentation. Aging lasts 10 to 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels from the Louis Latour cooperage with a medium toast, bringing structure and complexity to the wine.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
