The elegance and complexity of a Premier Cru from Burgundy by Louis Latour
The estate
Officially established in 1797, the House of Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy, France. Still independent and family-run after twelve generations, it is now led by Florent Latour. The estate spans approximately 48 to 50 hectares of vines, including an exceptional proportion of classified plots. Historically based in the village of Aloxe-Corton, the estate stands out for its long-standing commitment to sustainable viticulture and for owning its own cooperage, a rare asset that allows it to perfectly master the aging of its wines.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the prestigious climat Les Suchots, located within the Vosne-Romanée appellation in the Côte de Nuits. This Premier Cru terroir rests on iron-rich clay soils. The vines, averaging around thirty years of age, benefit from controlled yields of 38 hectolitres per hectare. The plot displays a fascinating geological diversity, ranging from stony, shallow soils on the higher slopes to more clay-rich areas at its centre, offering ideal conditions for the vines to flourish.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for this Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2024 are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness. Traditional vinification takes place in open vats, encouraging natural extraction. The entire wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation. Aging takes place over ten to twelve months in medium-toast French oak barrels, crafted by the House's own cooperage. This aging process uses 40% new barrels and 60% once-used barrels, preserving the pure expression of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
