Description

Characteristics and tasting advice for Coteau de Chéry 2024 by M. Chapoutier

Tasting

Appearance

The wine displays a deep golden color, enhanced by golden yellow highlights and subtle green reflections.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet is intense and complex. It reveals aromas of exotic fruits such as pineapple and lychee, harmoniously intertwined with notes of acacia blossom, white peach, and apricot. A delicate hint of vanilla completes the ensemble.

Palate

Full and rounded, the palate charms with its smooth, creamy texture, typical of the grape variety. This generosity is perfectly balanced by a lively acidity that brings freshness, leading to a persistent finish with subtle notes of vanilla.

Food and wine pairings

The estate suggests pairing this wine with grilled sea bream with yuzu sauce and black rice. It will also pair beautifully with rich fish such as salmon, poultry in cream sauce, a chicken and apricot tagine, or aged goat cheese.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Condrieu 2024 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C, after light decanting for about 30 minutes. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favorably until around 2031.

The estate

Founded in 1808, the Maison M. Chapoutier is a true institution of the Rhône Valley. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture since 1990 under the leadership of Michel Chapoutier, the estate stands out for its absolute pursuit of terroir expression. The domaine is also renowned for its inclusive commitment, illustrated by the introduction of braille on its labels as early as 1994. Today, the next generation is taking over: Mathilde oversees commercial operations while Maxime Chapoutier supervises the technical direction and winemaking, thus continuing the excellence and family philosophy.

The vineyard

This wine comes from the Condrieu appellation, an exceptional terroir covering less than 150 hectares. The vines, grown biodynamically, are planted on very steep terraced slopes requiring manual work. Facing south and southeast to protect against cold winds, the vineyard rests on complex soils composed of schist and weathered granite, giving the grapes a unique minerality and acidity.

The vintage

The year 2024 was marked by particularly challenging weather conditions. Spring brought abundant rainfall accompanied by hail episodes, creating significant disease pressure on the vines. Fortunately, the return of summer warmth, combined with the drying effect of the mistral, helped to restore the vineyard’s health. The cool nights at the end of the season then provided ideal conditions for the berries to complete their vegetative cycle.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for this Condrieu 2024 are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness. After whole-cluster pressing, the must undergoes cold static settling for 48 hours. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at controlled temperature, divided between large wooden vessels (70%) and stainless steel tanks (30%). Aging on lees lasts between 8 and 10 months, mainly in demi-muids of one or two wines (85%), with a small proportion of new barrels (15%) to preserve the purity of the fruit.

Grape variety

This Coteau de Chéry 2024 by M. Chapoutier is made from 100% viognier.
