Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Les Greffieux 2024 M. Chapoutier
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful garnet red hue, enhanced by subtle nuances reflecting perfect maturity.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals itself through concentrated notes of small black fruits such as blackcurrant, blackberry and black cherry. It is then enriched with mineral touches evoking ink and graphite, underlined by delicate hints of black pepper.
Palate
The palate offers a powerful tannic structure, balanced by lovely acidity and fruity expression. Aromas of liquorice unfold throughout the tasting, announcing a wine built for a long evolution.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine will pair perfectly with pork-based dishes accompanied by black mushrooms. It will also complement wild game dishes such as venison, or a slow-roasted lamb.
Service and storage
The Ermitage "Les Greffieux" 2024 requires patience to reveal its full potential. It will reach its peak between 2030 and 2035, and can be cellared until around 2070.
Other characteristics
True to the estate's commitment to inclusivity, the label on this bottle features an inscription in braille. Furthermore, this wine is bottled without any fining or filtration, preserving its natural expression.
The authentic expression of a singular terroir in the Ermitage appellation
The estate
Founded in 1808 in Tain-l'Hermitage, the house of M. Chapoutier is a true institution in France, in the Rhône Valley. Now led by Michel Chapoutier, alongside his children Mathilde and Maxime as well as his wife Corinne, the estate is recognised worldwide. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture as early as 1990, the estate is committed to revealing the truth of each terroir through its concept of Parcel Selections. The vineyard now spans more than 350 hectares, cultivated with rigour and absolute respect for the environment.
The vineyard
The Ermitage "Les Greffieux" cuvée comes from plots located at the foot of the hill, just below the Le Méal sector. This terroir rests on glacial alluvial deposits made up of rounded pebbles, which act as thermal regulators, and deep clay soils. Cultivated biodynamically, the vines benefit from meticulous soil work, carried out using horses and miniature pigs to preserve the soil structure and encourage biodiversity.
The vintage
The year 2024 was marked by a warm growing season. This weather allowed the berries to reach optimal physiological ripeness, resulting in beautiful sugar concentration and fully achieved phenolic maturity at harvest.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes destined for the Les Greffieux 2024 are hand-harvested and fully destemmed. Fermentation takes place naturally in concrete vats, followed by a long maceration for gentle extraction. Only the free-run juice is kept. The wine is then aged for fourteen to eighteen months in oak barrels, one third of which are new barrels and two thirds of which have already held one or two wines.
