An Alsace Pinot Noir with silky tannins from Domaine Pfister

The estate

Founded in 1780 in Dahlenheim, Domaine Pfister spans 10 hectares across 40 plots in northern Alsace, near Strasbourg. Mélanie Pfister, the eighth generation and the first woman to head this family-run estate since 2008, brings expertise gained through studies in agronomy and oenology. Enriched by experience at prestigious estates such as Zind-Humbrecht, Méo-Camuzet, and Château d’Yquem, she now oversees this property, certified organic since 2021 and farmed biodynamically on limestone soils including the Engelberg Grand Cru.

The vineyard

The lieu-dit Huette—meaning “the hut” in Alsatian—enjoys a due-south exposure on the slopes of the Scharrach, bordering the Engelberg Grand Cru. This stony Alsace terroir offers exceptional conditions for ripening Pinot Noir, allowing the small clusters to reach optimal maturity thanks to this privileged setting.

Winemaking and aging

The 2023 Pinot Noir “Hüt” undergoes traditional vinification with pump-overs and punch-downs over a total maceration of 18 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 15 months in oak barrels that have previously held 1 to 3 wines, thus preserving the purity of the fruit. Blending and bottling took place in March 2025.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
