The Elegance of a Great Red Wine from Alsace
The Estate
Founded in 1780, this family estate extends over around ten hectares in the heart of the Alsace wine region. Today, the eighth generation is embodied by the current owner, Mélanie Pfister, the first woman to run the estate. Under her leadership, this historic property perpetuates ancestral expertise while practising precision viticulture. Strongly committed to environmental responsibility, the estate is certified organic and applies the principles of biodynamics, producing gastronomic wines that express all the purity and authenticity of their terroir.
The Vineyard
Located in the north of the Alsace appellation, around the village of Dahlenheim, the vineyard benefits from a semi-continental climate. The plot dedicated to this Pinot Noir Hüt Mélanie Pfister lies on the upper part of the famous Engelberg hillside, facing due south. The vines, around fifteen years old, thrive on clay-limestone soil where clay predominates. The estate favours a farming approach that respects living systems, certified organic, with soil management free of ploughing since the 1980s and controlled grass cover to promote biodiversity.
Vinification and Ageing
The Pinot Noir "Hüt" 2024 is made from hand-harvested grapes. The vinification of this Pinot Noir Hüt Mélanie Pfister is carried out with indigenous yeasts during a maceration of around eighteen days, accompanied by pigeages and remontages. The wine is then aged for fifteen months in used Burgundy barrels, in order to soften the tannins while preserving the brightness of the fruit. The wine is finally bottled without any fining or filtration.
