Description
A luscious Willamette Valley red wine with structured tannins
The estate
The Nicolas Jay winery was born from the friendship between Jean-Nicolas Méo, a Burgundian winemaker, and Jay Boberg, an American music producer.
Located in the North Willamette Valley in Oregon, the estate oversees a terroir largely composed of old vines. In addition, partnerships with growers farming their vineyards organically as well as biodynamically ensure a supply of high-quality grapes.
The vineyard
L'Ensemble by Nicolas Jay is a Willamette Valley wine crafted from a rigorous selection of vineyards from both the estate and partner growers, all certified organic, biodynamic, or LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology). An authentic and refined expression of the distinctive character of both the vintage and each terroir, this cuvée also reflects the philosophy and exacting standards championed by the estate throughout the viticultural work as well as during vinification.
The vintage
The year 2023 benefited from exceptional conditions, especially compared with previous vintages. Abundant winter precipitation gave the vines the energy needed for the season. A cool, wet spring delayed flowering by a week compared to the usual mid-April period. Warm summer temperatures fostered growth, ensuring healthy and abundant vines. Light rain just before harvest helped achieve ripeness and compressed the picking window.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
