Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 from Pierre Girardin
Tasting
Appearance
A white wine, this cuvée traditionally displays a brilliant robe with green-gold highlights, although the specific visual characteristics of this vintage have not yet been documented.
Nose
While it is too early to define the exact bouquet of this year, the usual aromatic profile of this cru reveals notes of white peach, honeysuckle and toasted almond, enhanced by a mineral touch of flint.
Palate
In keeping with previous editions, one can expect a palate combining a concentrated attack with a creamy texture. The whole is generally balanced by saline minerality and crisp acidity, leading to a persistent, remarkably precise finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This great white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as turbot served with hollandaise sauce, crustaceans such as lobster, or poultry served with a cream and mushroom sauce.
Serving and Cellaring
To reveal the full complexity of the Montrachet Grand Cru 2024, it is generally recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C, after gentle decanting for 30 to 60 minutes. Built for long cellar ageing, this wine has significant ageing potential, allowing it to be kept for many years.
The Pure, Mineral Expression of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Pierre Girardin
The Estate
Founded in 2016 in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy in France, Domaine Pierre Girardin is run by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, representing the thirteenth generation of an illustrious winemaking family. The vineyard now extends over approximately 13 to 14 hectares in the Côte de Beaune, complemented by more than 6 hectares in the Jura. The current owner stands out for a contemporary, minimally interventionist approach focused on the purity of terroir and biodynamics. This exacting vision has quickly elevated the estate to the ranks of the region's essential references.
The Vineyard
The Montrachet plot used for this cuvée is located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, at an altitude ranging between 250 and 270 metres. Benefiting from ideal east and south exposures for even ripening, the vines thrive on very shallow soils. This exceptional terroir rests on a base of hard Jurassic limestone intersected by reddish marls. This distinctive geology forces the roots to delve deep, naturally limiting the vine's vigour and promoting great concentration in the berries.
Winemaking and Ageing
Although the technical details specific to the Montrachet Grand Cru 2024 have not yet been revealed, the estate usually favours a minimalist approach for this wine. Typical vinification involves gentle pressing and the exclusive use of indigenous yeasts. Ageing generally takes place in custom-made 456-litre barrels, made of 100% new oak. True to its philosophy of non-intervention, the winemaker chooses to age the wine without lees stirring or topping up, thereby preserving all of the cru's aromatic purity and tension.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
