Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Pierre Girardin's Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2024
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale golden hue with subtle green highlights in its youth.
Nose
The nose opens on indulgent aromas of pastry and brioche, underlined by a well-controlled reduction that brings great precision as well as mineral and lemony notes.
Palate
Energetic and endowed with lovely acidity, the palate proves particularly mouth-watering and full of vitality. It stretches out at length on a persistent finish, marked by saline touches.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs beautifully with noble fish such as turbot with beurre blanc, pan-seared scallops, or roast poultry served with a creamy mushroom sauce. It also goes very well with dishes from Japanese cuisine such as sashimi.
Serving and cellaring
Crafted for ageing, this Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2024 can rest in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2044.
The precision and elegance of a white wine from Puligny-Montrachet
The estate
Founded in 2016 in Meursault, the Pierre Girardin estate quickly established itself as a leading name in Burgundy. A thirteenth-generation winegrower, its current owner, Pierre-Vincent Girardin, has skilfully built on his family heritage to forge his own identity. The estate stands out for its very hands-off approach, environmentally respectful viticulture and distinctive use of bespoke barrels. This philosophy allows the identity of the region's terroirs to be revealed with great transparency.
The vineyard
This cru comes from vines over thirty-five years old, cultivated according to the principles of organic farming. The "Les Pucelles" climat is one of the most emblematic terroirs of Puligny-Montrachet, situated in the immediate extension of famous grands crus. Its brown, fine, clay-limestone soils encourage the production of grapes with beautiful concentration while preserving a remarkable tension.
Winemaking and ageing
The vinification of the Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "Les Pucelles" 2024 favours a minimalist approach. Fermentations begin naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Ageing then takes place in new 456-litre oak barrels, a specific format chosen to limit the oak imprint, for close to a year. The wine finally benefits from several months of refining in stainless steel tanks before being bottled without any fining or filtration.
