Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023 Pierre Girardin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a pale yellow hue, clear and bright, with delicate golden highlights.

Nose
With great precision, the nose opens on aromas of citrus fruits, particularly grapefruit, and white flowers. With aeration, it reveals a fine minerality reminiscent of gunflint, complemented by subtle touches of stone fruits such as white peach and mirabelle plum.

Palate
The attack is lively and dynamic, carried by a perfectly integrated acidity. The palate offers a silky texture underpinned by a firm mineral structure. The finish, remarkably long, lingers on notes of citrus and flowers, along with a delicate saline, smoky sensation.

Food and Wine Pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with noble fish such as turbot or sea bass, served with a light lemon butter sauce. It also enhances shellfish such as langoustines and scallops, as well as refined poultry dishes or dishes based on delicate vegetables and fine mushrooms.

Service and Storage

For an optimal tasting experience, this Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023 should be served at a temperature between 11 and 13°C, ideally in a Burgundy-style glass, after a brief aeration of about thirty minutes. This wine can be enjoyed now, but its potential allows it to age favourably in the cellar until around 2031.

Other Characteristics

This wine from France has an alcohol content of 13%. To preserve its full density and aromatic integrity, it is bottled without fining or filtration, which may result in a very slight natural turbidity.

The Purity and Tension of a Great White Puligny-Montrachet

The Estate

Founded in the second half of the 2010s, with a first vintage released in 2017, Domaine Pierre Girardin is located in Burgundy, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Currently led by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, a thirteenth-generation winemaker, the estate has quickly established itself as a rising reference. Built on an initial land holding of around 4.5 hectares, the domaine stands out for its environmentally respectful approach and its determination to express the purity of each terroir with great precision.

The Vineyard

This Puligny-Montrachet wine is made from vines cultivated using practices close to organic farming. The grapes come exclusively from two lieux-dits located north of the village: "Les Charmes" and "Les Corvées des Vignes". These plots rest on clay-limestone soils, providing ideal drainage and giving the wine its mineral tension. The vines, trained using the Guyot method, are managed for moderate yields to ensure optimal concentration in the berries.

The Vintage

The year 2023 was marked by generally warm but variable climatic conditions. This weather required particular vigilance and a meticulous selection of harvest dates, plot by plot, in order to preserve the freshness and natural balance of the grapes.

Winemaking and Aging

The winemaking of the Puligny-Montrachet Village 2023 begins with whole-cluster pressing. Fermentation is carried out exclusively using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for about twelve months in custom large-volume oak barrels (456 litres), a significant proportion of which are new oak with a light toast. This ageing in oak is followed by six to seven months of refinement in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
