Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Vosne-Romanée "Village" 2022 Pierre Girardin

Tasting notes

Colour
The glass reveals a deep ruby red colour.

Nose
The nose expresses great purity, dominated by aromas of red and black fruits such as cherry, strawberry and plum. It then opens onto delicate floral notes of violet and rose, underlined by spicy touches of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Palate
The palate stands out with a silky texture and a refined tannic structure, without any harshness. Boasting fine balance and a remarkable presence in the mid-palate, this wine offers a persistent and precise finish.

Food and wine pairing

This red wine pairs perfectly with poultry such as duck, goose or pigeon with mushrooms. It also goes wonderfully well with roast beef, slow-cooked lamb, truffle-based dishes, pan-seared foie gras, as well as characterful cheeses such as Époisses, Langres or Saint-Florentin.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, this Vosne-Romanée "Village" 2022 will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar. It is recommended to enjoy it until around 2029, although it may evolve favourably beyond a decade under optimal storage conditions.

Other characteristics

This Vin de France has an alcohol content of 12.5%.

The finesse and purity of a Vosne-Romanée by Pierre Girardin

The estate

Representing the thirteenth generation of a winemaking lineage, Pierre-Vincent Girardin founded Domaine Pierre Girardin in 2016, at the age of nineteen. Located in Meursault, in Burgundy, the estate has grown from 2.5 hectares of family-owned vines to approximately 4.5 hectares today, complemented by solid partnerships. As the current owner and winemaker, Pierre-Vincent Girardin stands out for his minimal-intervention philosophy, guided by the lunar calendar and respectful of the environment, aiming to express the singularity of each terroir with great precision.

The vineyard

The plots dedicated to this Vosne-Romanée are located on mid-slope terrain. They rest on red clay-limestone soils typical of the appellation, offering excellent natural drainage. The vineyard is farmed according to organic viticulture principles, with meticulous canopy management and constant attention paid to vine health throughout the season.

The vintage

2022 began with abundant spring rainfall, allowing the soils to build up essential water reserves. Summer proved warm, without extreme heat, and was marked by a dry spell of around six weeks starting from late August. Light rains followed, promoting optimal and simultaneous ripening of the berries ahead of a generous harvest.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes destined for the Vosne-Romanée "Village" 2022 are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted. Vinification favours natural gravity flow and slow fermentation for a gentle extraction of tannins, without punching down. Aging takes place in traditional 225-litre Burgundian oak barrels, chosen to accompany the wine without masking its identity. Bottling is carried out without fining or filtration.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
