Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Monthélie 1er cru "Les Duresses" 2023 by Pierre Vincent
Tasting notes
Appearance
The vermilion red colour is remarkably elegant, with a beautiful clarity and ruby highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with generous aromas of fresh red fruit such as cherry and raspberry, harmoniously blended with forest floor notes. A delicate oaky touch and subtle floral and spicy nuances complete the aromatic profile.
Palate
On the palate, this wine unfolds a silky texture underpinned by a very fine structure and exceptionally refined tannins. The experience stretches into a deliciously long finish, marked by a hint of spice and a mineral backbone.
Food and wine pairing
A true gastronomic wine, this cuvée calls for refined dishes. Its complexity and structure will pair wonderfully with elaborate dishes, typical of classic French haute cuisine or Burgundian specialities.
Serving and cellaring
This Monthélie 1er cru "Les Duresses" 2023 is recognised as a true wine for laying down. While it already offers vibrant fruit in its youth, it has all the structure needed to evolve very favourably in bottle over several years.
The Elegance and Precision of a Great Pinot Noir from Monthélie
The estate
Founded in 2009 under the name Terres de Velle, the estate was acquired in 2023 by the Solexia group and its partners. Renamed Domaine Pierre Vincent in 2024, it is now run by this experienced winemaker. Located in Auxey-Duresses in Burgundy, the estate looks after 7 hectares spread across sixteen prestigious climats. Cultivated without chemical products and inspired by biodynamics, this "haute couture" vineyard gives rise to exceptional micro-cuvées that enhance the identity of each terroir.
The vineyard
The plot that gives rise to this Monthélie covers a tiny area of 0.1710 hectare within the climat Les Duresses. Planted in 1979, these old vines flourish on an east-facing slope around the Montagne du Bourdon. The terroir consists of a particularly well-drained clay and stony soil. The vines are trained using the Royat cordon pruning method, and harvesting is exclusively by hand, followed by rigorous sorting.
Winemaking and ageing
For this Monthélie 1er cru "Les Duresses" 2023, the winemaking is minimally interventionist. It includes 50% whole-bunch fruit and begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration. Vatting lasts around fifteen days, with native yeasts and gentle pigeages. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in oak barrels, with a moderate proportion of around 20% new oak. Finally, the wine rests in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
