Abuelo: a century-old Panamanian family distillery
Founded in 1908 by Don José Varela Blanco, Abuelo is a Panamanian family distillery that remains the property of Varela Hermanos, now led by Luis José Varela Jr. Located in Pesé in the most fertile valley of Panama, the company oversees the entire production across 1,200 hectares of sugarcane. Distillation is performed in a column still with a copper head, followed by aging in American white oak casks across nineteen specialized cellars. This exceptional rum is the result of a meticulous blend of Panamanian rums aged a minimum of 14 years in American white oak casks.
