Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Saké Cask #0137 from Nagahama
Tasting
Nose
On the nose, this whisky offers round, floral vanilla notes contributed by the bourbon cask, balanced by fresher, herbaceous nuances reminiscent of lemongrass and rice, characteristic of sake.
Palate
On the palate, the expression reveals the full richness of the sake cask with a dry, clean texture contrasting with an underlying sweetness. The finish is characterized by a persistent fruitiness where notes of currants and pear blend harmoniously with the sweetness of vanilla and white flowers, leaving a lasting and balanced impression.
An Exceptional Japanese Whisky from the Nagahama Distillery
Nagahama Distillery: Japanese Tradition and Terroir
Founded around the Nagahama palace built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi around 1577, Nagahama is located in Shiga Prefecture on the shores of Lake Biwa. The distillery benefits from an exceptional environment, with the lake’s pure waters and a climate conducive to maturation. Nagahama stands out for its artisanal approach and its emphasis on local terroir in crafting its Japanese whiskies.
Saké Cask #0137: An Exceptional Single Cask
Cask #0137 was selected for its unique and atypical quality by Takashi Kiyoi, master blender, and Yusuke Yahisa, master distiller of Japan’s smallest distillery. After carefully maturing each cask for seven years, the distillery now presents this Single Cask aged three years in a bourbon cask, then finished in a cask that held Junmai Daiginjo sake. This cuvée perfectly illustrates the art of Japanese whisky: balance, elegance and a profound respect for wood.
