Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Stoan Chardonnay 2024 by Tramin
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful golden hue, clear and luminous.
Nose
Highly elegant and particularly refined, the aromatic bouquet expresses fruity scents of peach, apricot and pear, intertwined with floral touches of jasmine, mimosa, white flowers and elderflower. The whole is subtly enhanced by nuances of kumquat and delicate spicy notes.
Palate
The attack reveals deep fruit aromas such as pineapple and pear, complemented by vegetal notes of tomato leaf and green pepper, along with citrus zest. Perfectly balanced and harmonious, the palate stands out for its delicate saline minerality before extending into a long, smooth finish.
Food and wine pairings
This cuvée will pair wonderfully with a variety of starters, fish-based dishes, seasoned white meats, or spiced pork preparations served with mushrooms.
Serving and ageing
To fully appreciate the Stoan Chardonnay 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Endowed with fine ageing potential, this wine can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2034.
The alpine expression of a great white wine from Trentino-Alto Adige
The estate
Founded in 1898 by Christian Schrott, Cantina Tramin is a historic cooperative winery located in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy. Now bringing together numerous small winegrowers, this iconic brand has established itself as an essential reference in mountain viticulture. Currently chaired by Leo Tiefenthaler, with Willi Stürz as cellar master, the estate stands out for its commitment to showcasing alpine terroirs. It produces wines of great precision, faithfully reflecting the geological complexity and unique climate of this region.
The vineyard
The vines used for this cuvée flourish in the Alto Adige, at an altitude mainly between 500 and 600 metres. Aged from 10 to 40 years, the vines benefit from a privileged exposure, oriented 90% to the south-east and 10% to the south. They sink their roots into mineral-rich soils, composed of gravel, rocks, limestone and silt. Yields are rigorously controlled at around 45 hl/ha.
The vintage
The growing cycle benefited from a singular climate, marked by the meeting of beautiful Mediterranean-influenced sunshine and particularly cool alpine nights, refreshed by the cold winds descending from the surrounding mountains. The harvest took place under optimal conditions, from the end of September until mid-October.
Vinification and ageing
Upon arrival at the cellar in small crates, the grapes for the Stoan Chardonnay 2024 are gently pressed. Fermentation takes place slowly, between 18 and 20°C, in large oak casks of 30 to 40 hectolitres. After a partial malolactic fermentation and clarification through natural sedimentation, the wines are aged separately on the lees in these same casks until the end of August. The blend is then made before bottling, followed by a further rest of at least three months in the cellar. The total maturation lasts a minimum of 14 months.
Grape varieties
This blend is composed of Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Bianco and Gewürztraminer.
