Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Mâcon-Fuissé "Les Châtaigniers" 2024 Verget

Tasting

Colour

A crystalline appearance unfolds in the glass, enhanced by delicate pale gold hues.

Nose

The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of pear, almond and white flowers such as hawthorn and honeysuckle. It then reveals hints of pure citrus and flint, complemented by subtle nuances of white pepper and fresh mint.

Palate

On the palate, this wine reveals a structure that is both generous and supple. The attack is silky, giving way to a beautiful minerality and a saline, succulent character. The finish stands out for its vivacity, its tangy profile and its remarkable length.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs perfectly with seafood, particularly oysters, or raw fish preparations. It also goes very well with roasted white fish, white meats served with a lightly creamy sauce, dishes with Asian influences, as well as mild or goat cheeses.

The estate

Founded in 1990 by Jean-Marie Guffens, the négociant house Verget is located in the Mâconnais, in Burgundy. Having arrived from Belgium in 1976, Jean-Marie Guffens, who still runs the estate today, revolutionised the region's approach. Applying his philosophy that the best wines come from the best grapes, he rigorously selects high-quality plots. The estate thus demonstrates that the terroirs of southern Burgundy can rival prestigious appellations, thanks to precise winemaking aimed at expressing the authenticity of each climat.

The vineyard

The Mâcon-Fuissé cuvée comes from a specific plot named "Les Châtaigniers", located on the heights of Fuissé, just above the Premier Cru "Les Vignes Blanches". This terroir benefits from particularly chalky clay-limestone soil and a marl substrate. The vines, often old, are cultivated using sustainable or organic practices with controlled yields. This high-altitude microclimate gives the grapes optimal concentration while preserving great mineral precision.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for the Mâcon-Fuissé "Les Châtaigniers" 2024 are harvested by hand with meticulous sorting. Only the free-run juice is used, transferred directly into French oak barrels (25% of which are new). Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged on fine lees for six months, without racking, with regular lees stirring to add texture while preserving freshness and minerality. The wine undergoes little to no filtration.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
