Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Almaviva 2024 by Viña Almaviva

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a deep ruby colour, both intense and opaque.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet reveals scents of blackcurrant and blackberry, harmoniously intertwined with notes of incense, cedar, undergrowth and sweet spices.

Palate
The palate offers a remarkable balance between richness and elegance, combining freshness with beautiful maturity. Endowed with exceptional depth and persistence, this wine displays round, polished tannins that give it a velvety structure. The whole stands out for its precision, volume, tension and assertive character, beautifully expressing its terroir of origin.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great wine will pair wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, game dishes in sauce, mushroom or truffle preparations, as well as mature hard cheeses.

Serving and Ageing

To fully appreciate the Almaviva 2024, it is recommended to decant it well in advance and serve it at a temperature between 16 and 18 degrees. This vintage boasts exceptional ageing potential, allowing it to be kept in the cellar for many years.

The Pure and Balanced Expression of a Great Chilean Red Wine from Puente Alto

The Estate

Born in 1997 from a historic alliance between Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA and Viña Almaviva, the estate embodies the perfect meeting of Bordeaux expertise and Chilean terroir. Located in the Central Valley, this exceptional estate is now co-directed by the Rothschild and Guilisasti families. A true prestige brand of international renown, the property stands out for its unique château concept. It produces wines of remarkable quality that brilliantly celebrate the union of two great winemaking cultures.

The Vineyard

The vineyard covers mainly 65 hectares in Puente Alto, at the foot of the Andes mountain range, complemented by 14 hectares in Peumo. The vines grow on poor alluvial soils, composed of clay loam, sand and pebbles, offering excellent drainage. This terroir benefits from a semi-arid Mediterranean climate, marked by cooling Andean breezes that promote slow berry ripening. The entire estate is managed according to the principles of organic farming, with careful management of water resources.

The Vintage

The year 2024 marks a return to wetter conditions following a period of severe drought. Soil water reserves were replenished thanks to abundant winter and spring rainfall. The coolness of spring delayed the growing cycle by two to three weeks. Subsequently, a hot summer followed by a cooler autumn allowed for slow, harmonious ripening of the grapes. The mild temperatures of April and May were key to preserving the purity of the fruit and a lovely acidity.

Winemaking and Ageing

Following hand-harvesting carried out between late March and early May, the grapes are vinified with great precision. The Almaviva 2024 is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 73% of which are new, refining the wine's structure while giving it great complexity.

Grape Varieties

This wine is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Carménère, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
