Description

A Mendoza wine with a seductive freshness and complexity

The estate

During his first trip to South America in 1988, notably to the Mendoza region, the American winemaker Paul Hobbs initiated his project to establish a winery on these fine high-altitude terroirs. Vina Cobos was founded in 1998 in Luján de Cuyo, an exceptional terroir in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.

Constantly seeking excellence, this winemaker breaks the rules with his innovative approach to vineyard management and winemaking. Made from a rigorous selection of illustrious high-altitude vineyards, the estate's wines seduce with their minerality, their balance and their finesse.

A visionary and passionate man, Paul Hobbs has become, over the years, a major player both regarding the Malbec varietal and in his active participation in the growing reputation of Argentine wines beyond the country’s borders.

The vineyard

Cobos Malbec 2019 by Vina Cobos is a Mendoza wine that stems from vineyards located in the Uco and Luján de Cuyo valleys.

The vintage

2019 is a year marked, on the one hand, by beneficial thermal amplitudes. Indeed, these temperature variations favoured a pleasant ripeness level, resulting in an optimal concentration of the grapes as well as utterly fine tannins. On the other hand, the low rainfall recorded, particularly during the harvest, led to the harvesting of high-quality grapes.

Vinification and ageing

Hand-picked at night. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (61% new and 39% second-fill barrels).

The blend

Malbec (100%).
