Description
A Nahe white wine expressing its terroir with great character and purity
The estate
For more than 250 years, Weingut Dönnhoff has watched over a unique terroir of vertiginous hillsides on the banks of the Nahe river. Helmut Dönnhoff produces, vintage after vintage, great German wines from a patchwork of terroirs which express the complexity, purity and multiple nuances of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris.
Recognised across the borders as being among the greatest white wines in the world, Weingut Dönnhoff wines are seducing with their elegance, their aromatic richness, their freshness as well as their exceptional minerality emitted after several decades of ageing.
The vineyard
Covering an area of 25 hectares, the terroir of Weingut Dönnhoff derives its uniqueness from its multiplicity of soils and sun exposure leading to ideal conditions for the grapes to reach their optimum maturity. Undergoing rigorous care, the 20 to 70-year-old vines produce low but very qualitative yields.
The wine
Classified as a VDP Erste Lage, this 2020 Roxheimer Höllenpfad Trocken Riesling by Weingut Dönnhoff stems from a sloping, south-facing vineyard in the middle Nahe Valley. The vines are between 10 and 40 years old and are planted on warm, dry soils composed of limestone with red sandstone.
Vinification and ageing
This Nahe wine is the result of a rigorous selection during manual harvesting in order to keep only the highest quality grapes. Fermentation is carried out in steel tanks and in barrels, as is the ageing process.
The blend
Roxheimer Höllenpfad Trocken 2020 by Weingut Dönnhoff is a 100% Riesling.
Riesling Roxheimer Höllenpfad Trocken 2020 by Weingut Dönnhoff: Characteristics and tasting tips
The tasting
This German white wine is very fine and seduces with its spicy aromas, its acidity and its purity. Throughout the tasting, the wine exudes the characteristics of its red sandstone terroir, which gives it deliciously spicy and even peppery notes as well as generous and racy fruit.
