The authentic expression of a great Loire terroir by Alphonse Mellot
The estate
Although the family's winemaking history dates back to 1513, the Alphonse Mellot House was officially founded in 1881. Located in Sancerre, in the Loire Valley, the estate now stretches over 76 hectares of vines. Currently run by Alphonse Mellot junior, representing the nineteenth generation, and his sister Emmanuelle, the domaine stands out for its rigorous plot-by-plot approach. Fully certified in biodynamic farming since 1999, this historic vineyard makes it a point of honour to reveal the authenticity of its terroirs through manual and extremely meticulous cultivation practices.
The vineyard
The grapes intended for this Pouilly-Fumé come from plots located in the commune of Saint-Andelain, on the right bank of the river, facing the Sancerre hillside. This singular terroir rests on a geological mosaic composed of Kimmeridgian limestone, marl and flinty clay. Cultivated according to biodynamic principles, these vines, with an average age of forty years, receive constant attention and rigorous manual work to ensure controlled yields and optimal fruit quality.
Vinification and ageing
After an exclusively manual harvest allowing rigorous sorting both in the vineyard and in the cellar, the berries of this Pouilly-Fumé 2024 undergo an extremely careful pressing. Fermentations and ageing are then tailored to each plot, taking place in vats, truncated wooden foudres or barrels, in order to preserve the aromatic purity and tension characteristic of the fruit.
Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
