A Chianti Classico Riserva true to traditional Tuscan grape varieties
The estate
Founded in the late 1960s by Milanese publisher Paolo Panerai, who brought together several historic estates, Castellare di Castellina spans 33 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Chianti Classico in Tuscany. The estate stands out for its exclusive commitment to native Tuscan grape varieties: sangioveto, canaiolo and colorino. Its grand cru “I Sodi di San Niccolò”, a pioneer among Supertuscans made solely from native varieties, ages in the crypt of a 14th-century church. Internationally recognized, Castellare di Castellina embodies a successful alliance between Tuscan tradition and winemaking innovation.
The vineyard
The vines dedicated to this Chianti Classico are planted in Castellina in Chianti, in the province of Siena, on limestone soils located between 350 and 400 meters above sea level.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage was marked in Tuscany by a warm season. Spring rains provided valuable water reserves to face the summer drought. Mid-August rainfall made it possible to achieve optimal ripeness of the grapes, harvested from September 10.
Vinification and aging
Vinification of the 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva takes place in stainless-steel tanks. The wine then benefits from 15 months of aging in 2.25- and 5-hectoliter French oak barrels, followed by an additional 15 months in bottle before release.
Grape varieties
Sangioveto (90%) and canaiolo (10%).
