The estate
Founded in 1720 in Beaune by Edme Champy, a cooper, Champy remains Burgundy’s oldest négociant house. Under the leadership of Dimitri Bazas, oenologist and technical director for over twenty years, and José Ramalho, cellar master since 1982, the estate stands out as the last active intramural production site in the heart of Beaune. A pioneer in organic and biodynamic viticulture since 2007, it farms its Burgundy vineyard using environmentally responsible practices.
The vineyard
Mazis-Chambertin is one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s nine Grands Crus, located on the Côte de Nuits in the Côte d'Or. This prestigious climat covers 8.79 hectares and benefits from an exceptional terroir of limestone with a good proportion of clay marls. The vines are planted on a steep slope, at an altitude ranging from 240 to 280 meters, offering ideal conditions for expressing Pinot Noir.
The vintage
The 2007 vintage in Burgundy was described as very good, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness and fully express the character of the terroir.
