A powerful, rounded Grand Cru from Gevrey-Chambertin
The estate
Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, Champy remains the oldest wine merchant house in Burgundy. Owned by the Advini group, it farms twenty-one hectares on the Côte de Beaune, from Volnay to Corton-Charlemagne. A pioneer in biodynamics as early as 2007 under the technical direction of Dimitri Bazas, assisted by José Ramalho and Francis Simon, Champy combines viticultural excellence and exceptional heritage in its historic 15th-century cellars in Beaune.
The vineyard
The Mazis-Chambertin is one of the nine Grands Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, located on the Côte de Nuits in Côte d'Or. This 8.79-hectare vineyard sits on limestone soils enriched with a fine proportion of clay marl. Planted on slopes at an altitude between 240 and 280 meters, this exceptional terroir gives the wines their powerful, rounded character so typical of the appellation.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2008 were vinified using traditional Burgundian methods, combining ancestral know-how and technical precision to reveal the full expression of this exceptional terroir.
