The estate

Founded in 1720 by Edme Champy, Maison Champy stands out as the oldest négociant house still in operation in Burgundy. Based in the heart of Beaune, it now oversees a 21-hectare vineyard. Owned by the Advini group since 2016, the estate is chaired by Thierry Bellicaud, supported by Dimitri Bazas as technical director. A pioneer of organic viticulture in the region, the house stands out for its exceptional historical heritage, including cellars inspired by Gustave Eiffel, and has been awarded the prestigious Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label.

The vineyard

The Les Taillepieds climat ranks among the most celebrated premiers crus of the Volnay appellation, located south of Beaune. Set on ideally exposed, well-ventilated slopes, this terroir is characterised by soils made up of marl and limestone. Maison Champy tends its vines with the utmost respect for the environment, drawing on the principles of organic and biodynamic farming to bring out the full complexity and minerality of this exceptional terroir.

Winemaking and ageing

The making of the Volnay 1er Cru "Les Taillepieds" 2012 reflects the estate's philosophy of excellence and tradition. The winemaking follows a classic, fruit-focused approach, notably relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts as well as pre-fermentation macerations. The wine is then patiently aged in the estate's spectacular historic cellars, some of whose underground galleries date back to the 15th century, allowing it to develop its structure in oak barrels.
