Description
A fresh and aromatic white Grand Cru Classé of Graves
The estate
Château Couhins is first found in archives from the 18th century. This property originally brought together two former Graves wine estates. An integral part of the INRA (National Institute for Agronomic Research) network, Château Couhins has dedicated its know-how and vineyard to viticultural research and innovation.
The vineyard
Today, the Château Couhins vineyard covers 25 hectares planted around the town of Villenave D'Ornon at the gates of Bordeaux. The vines are planted in a mosaic of terroirs, formed by a low outcropping, a clay-limestone base and sandy-gravelly soils.
The vintage
2019 was undoubtedly one of the great vintages of the estate. Winter was mild and dry in the Graves. The summer was hot and dry. This 2019 vintage was characterised by grapes of excellent health and perfect ripeness.
The winemaking
Manual harvest in crates between September 2 and 23. Pressing in whole bunches. Light settling. Fermentation.
The ageing
10 months of ageing on lees. Lees stirring. Barrels from 225 to 500 litres. New barrels (15%).
The blend
Sauvignon blanc (93%), sauvignon gris (7%).
The tasting
This white classified growth of Graves is a wine that reveals beautiful aromas. Tasted en primeur, the Château Couhins 2019 White expresses a ripe nose, with notes of citrus and exotic fruits, as well as mineral notes. On the palate, the wine reveals a beautiful salinity and a remarkable balance of volume and freshness.
