Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole 2025 – Château de Chamirey
Food and Wine Pairing
This Mercurey 1er Cru Clos des Ruelles pairs beautifully with slow-braised red meats, such as beef in sauce or herb-roasted lamb. It is also appealing alongside dishes with earthy flavours, such as those based on mushrooms, and finds a fine echo in aged or soft-rind goat's cheeses, as well as in game birds.

The Estate
Founded in 1932 by the Marquis de Jouennes d'Herville in Mercurey, in Burgundy, the Château de Chamirey estate now extends over 37 hectares of vines, 15 of which are classified as Premier Cru. It is now run by Amaury Devillard and Aurore Monot-Devillard, of the Rochambeau-Devillard family, who continue a family commitment handed down over several generations. The estate stands out for its sole ownership of two Premier Cru climats, one for red wine and the other for white, illustrating the diversity of terroirs within the Mercurey appellation.
The Vineyard
The Clos des Ruelles is a monopole parcel owned by Château de Chamirey in Mercurey, covering approximately 2.5 hectares of south/south-east-facing vines. The clay-limestone soil, marked by a high concentration of ferric oxide that gives it its characteristic brick-red colour, lends this climat a singular identity within the Mercurey Premier Cru appellation. The vines, planted in 1954 and then in the 1980s, have a high average age that contributes to the wine's concentration and complexity.
Vinification and Ageing
The production of this Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole 2025 follows the method the estate applies to this climat: hand harvesting, rigorous sorting of the bunches and almost complete destemming precede a maceration carried out with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place entirely in oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new wood, in order to preserve the expression of the fruit while adding structure and complexity to the wine.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
