In 1976, Maine and Jean-Marie Guffens-Heynen left their native Flanders for Burgundy. Young students, the couple gave themselves one year to learn French and discover wine. They became overseers of a small estate in the Mâconnais. Three they learnt how to work the vineyard and Jean-Marie studied how to vinify wine. In 1979, they acquired a few plots of vines in the commune of Pierreclos. Enthusiastic but inexperienced, they compensated their lack of knowledge by an almost instinctive approach to the vine and wine. Their sensitivity and creativity allied with a true passion for wine has gradually earned them respect as talented winemakers. This ever growing recognition combined with limited production means that these wines are becoming harder and harder to find!
