The singular expression of a white wine from Château des Tourettes

The estate

Acquired in 1997 by Jean-Marie Guffens and his wife Maine (Marie) Guffens-Heynen, the Château des Tourettes is a distinctive estate located in the Luberon, in the heart of the Rhône Valley. The estate stands out for its unique philosophical approach, favoring human insight and meticulous work over simple terroir determinism. The current owners cultivate atypical grape varieties for the region, freeing themselves from strict appellation rules to produce wines of great creative freedom, recognized for their technical excellence and deep respect for the environment.

The vineyard

Claimed as Vin de France, the vineyard thrives on the "Plateau de l'Aigle", a high-altitude terroir reaching around 400 meters. This privileged location ensures optimal sunshine while benefiting from the cooling influence of the Mistral. The vines, around 25 years old and derived from massal selections, are planted at a density of 5,500 vines per hectare on limestone-rich soils. The estate practices regenerative and natural viticulture, without any chemical inputs, thus promoting biodiversity and soil health.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage was marked by a warm growing season, while benefiting from adequate water reserves. Flowering conditions were optimal, allowing the development of perfectly balanced berries that reached full maturity.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal phenolic ripeness. During pressing, only the first juices are retained for the production of the Tinus Marsanne Viognier "Plateau de l'Aigle" 2022, ensuring great aromatic purity and limiting tannin extraction. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts during a brief three-month period in oak barrels. The wine then continues its aging in tulip-shaped concrete vats, promoting slow maturation before bottling.

Grape varieties

This wine is made from a blend of marsanne and viognier.
