Nose
The nose opens with fruity aromas accompanied by mentholated and licorice notes. Hints of red cherry complete the bouquet, while toasted nuances add an extra dimension to the overall aromatic profile.
Palate
On the palate, this wine reveals a warm, tannic structure. The attack is elegant, followed by lovely roundness through the mid-palate. The tannins, fleshy and silky, underpin a well-balanced palate that plays on freshness and length in an airy style.
Food and wine pairings
This Haut-Médoc is an ideal match for a garlic-roasted leg of lamb. It also pairs very well with red meats, game, as well as aged cheeses such as Comté or Brie de Meaux.

A structured and elegant Haut-Médoc from the 2009 vintage
The estate
Founded in 1991 in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, Bordeaux, Château Devise d'Ardilley is a recent Haut-Médoc estate, designed from the outset with new cellar facilities dedicated to contemporary winemaking. Its 10 to 11-hectare vineyard, on gravelly soils benefiting from the maritime breeze, promotes fine balance and an elegant aromatic expression. Purchased in 2000, it is now owned by Madeleine and Jacques Philippe. Classified cru bourgeois in 2003, the estate obtained organic certification in 2018.
The vineyard
The Château Devise d'Ardilley vineyard covers around ten hectares in Saint-Laurent-Médoc, within the Haut-Médoc appellation. The vines grow on Garonne gravel soils, which give the wines their mineral character and structure. The estate benefits from a temperate oceanic climate, with maritime breezes that encourage gradual ripening of the grapes. For more than ten years, the vineyard has been managed according to organic farming principles, including the practice of eco-grazing.
The vintage
The 2009 vintage is considered exceptional throughout the Bordeaux region. Weather conditions were particularly favorable, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness with well-developed tannins and excellent aromatic concentration.
Winemaking and aging
Château Devise d'Ardilley 2009 benefited from parcel-by-parcel vinification in a modern vat room equipped with twelve tanks, allowing for precise temperature control. Aging was carried out partly in oak barrels, with about one third new casks, and partly in clay amphorae—an ancestral technique that brings complexity and finesse to the wine.
